The Infection Is Growing

No. Not that infection.

Blogging. I love it. When I started blogging, I didn't know any one else personally that blogged. Then, I got Andrew blogging and he went crazy with it and he infected Linnea and Amy. Bob Bernier saw him and got going. Duncan and Buck stepped up what they were doing. (Other people even noticed what we were doing.) Local media has started using blogging tools to publish their magazines. And I believe I inspired a few others that aren't local to get going. You know who you are. But, all these people were young and blogging for the passion of it. Or writing because that's what they do for a living. Or just geeks blogging because that's what us web geeks do.

Then, Rick came along. And taking some cues from Dave and I, he started blogging. And he never looked back. And he's been inviting people from our "offline" social network of business associates to get blogging. Mark Paskell has guest blogged. He's working with Tim Grahl to launch his own. Linda Cohan guest blogged too. Eric Tapley re-launched a blog on his company site. Paul Rodriguez caught the bug. Paul LaFlamme's got it going on. Looks like Jason Kallio will be getting in the mix. And Sharon Kuchenbecker just launched hers. You can see that she's mentioned me, Rick and Paul on her blog. And I am sure this won't be the last time I mention her. (She does amazing gift baskets.)

So, what's going to happen next? Well. The infection is bound to grow bigger. And when it gets to a certain point, we'll be the largest local voice on the internet. We'll be linking a lot to each other cross pollinating traffic and raising our search engine rankings. We all know and trust each other. We refer business to each other. We do business with each other.

This is a natural evolution for blogging to become a tool for local business. Blogging will provide us all with a steadier flow of website visitors, raise our search engine rankings and help us generate leads and interest in our products and services. As it has done for me already. And we'll do it by creating a blogversation that attracts as many readers as the local press does. Now, that's pretty cool.
