Fight Club is one of my favorite movies. There's a quote in there somewhere that says, "F&*#$ers setting up franchises!" I think. Or maybe I imagined the line. But, he does set up franchises in different cities.
This Fight Club franchise thing is part of the inspiration for a new [complementary] approach we are taking with WhizSpark. In addition to helping people market their event. Now, we are helping them market their event concepts.
For those of you that like comparisions: What we are doing is... is meetup meets real events. Or weblogsinc for events. Or 8minutedating meets cooler events.
We've taken the best of these business plans and combined them in some clever ways.
Like the process that I've observed that weblogsinc goes through to start a new blog, we will be going through to start a new event concept.
- Identify/develop the concept.
- Identify the sponsor(s) (that may come first in some cases) and sell them.
- Identiy a concept coordinator. This is a biz dev/event planner/people recruiter role.
Like 8minutedating (or any of the other event dating franchises), we will be setting up hosts that work with different event coordinators.
- Identify advisors/hosts/event planners in different cities that will host events.
- Pay the concept coordinator and host per event.
Events will generate $ for WhizSpark, hosts and coordinators through sponsorship and attendee registration.
We will also be paying webloggers to attend and promote the events. Payment will be based on performance. We are experimenting with Susan through BlogAds right now on ExploitBoston!, but very open to other ways that we can leverage our tracking capabilities.
Like meetup, we will be doing these events regularly (eg monthly) (sometimes simultaneously) in different parts of the country.
The first concept that we are launching is a wine tasting/networking event. We have an aggressive strategy to have 8 wine tasting in MA per month by June.
We'll have two more concepts launched by the end of the week. And 2 more by the end of the month.
In effect, we will be providing a way for people to develop an event franchise. Or for companies to extend their media efforts to events, without worrying about developing the people and technology infrastructure.
Anyone that is interested in being an event coordinator, host, advisor, sponsor, supporting venue, or would like to partner with us to develop an event concepts, I am all ears. pcaputa at whizspark dot com.
