On the ad syndication/sales route, this past week's round goes to Yahoo/Overture. Citysearch, CNN.com, SI.com, plaxo turn to overture/yahoo for paid listings and algorithmic search instead of google. (desktop search in the case of plaxo)
In one year, yahoo turned from google customer to world-class-competitor. Pretty Damn Fast!
I guess that Google has done the same thing. With the recent announcement of google groups 2.0, google now has a yahoo group's equivalent. With blogger, they blow yahoo geocities out of the water. And with orkut, I imagine they are rocking yahoo personal's ass, atleast in term of membership growth.
This is looking like a two-horse race, folks.
The big question I have is: when will google start making money from more than just textads? I see I am not the only one that thinks a one revenue business model for a media company isn't a good idea.
