Calacanis interviewed Meetup's Heiferman. Some stuff from the interview:
- meetup is 4 years old
- 30 employees
- 3x revenue from last year
- 10-15% growth/month
- almost breakeven
- RSVPs quadrupled after starting to charge for meetup service
- Meetup service eliminated "crappy meetups" since people that weren't committed to making one work, wouldn't pay $19/month to use the service.
- 1/4 to 1/3rd of meetup's cost $ to attend. Organizers can charge members $x/year.
- Calacanis asked if Meetup made cash from the transactions. Scott's answer was, "As they add value, they will get paid."
