Websites for Bands

Kris Krug of bryght pinged me to tell me that they will be working on creating a package for band websites and labels. Watch the video.

Looks like NIMBIT and Bandzoogle will have some competition soon. And I'd imagine that myspace, purevolume and garageband will move in this direction too. Or atleast they should.

This is not a space that I'd want to play in.  It is crowded and musicians have no cash. But, I am very confident that bryght will develop an awesome service.  Looking forward to seeing it.

Hi!

I wanted to point out that while the "band-website" space is crowded, I don't see anything quite like what Bryght plans to offer. I've tried out Bandzoogle, MySpace, and others, and while they are quite good at what they do, they all adhere to an isolated “islands of data” approach. In contrast, Bryght's new project ‘Backstage’ will be loosely coupled to many other online services, like Flickr and upcoming.org. I would love it if an artist can click a button in Backstage and have their website content show up on a MySpace site. As open APIs continue to be built up, I think this will be quite possible.
As for your comment that musicians have no cash, Bryght plans to change this!

Very cool, Colin! I know bryght has a handle on all that is open-ness. So, I am very confident that you will come out with some cool stuff. Making it easy for bands to leverage upcoming.org, flickr and other api's is a great idea. Very good point.

And obviously you have a plan to help bands make money. That's certainly more than any other online service does now. Good stuff.

Looking forward to seeing it. Let me know if I can help you find some beta testers and feedback providers. I know quite a few people in bands and concert promotion.

this is Chris, from Bandzoogle. Its interesting that you're going in this direction. It has taken us a while, but we are rolling out RSS for all our artist content (text, events, photos, music) by the end of August.

We've been working with labels across Canada and the US since February developing an open API that their web teams will actually use (it has been quite a challenge).

It definitely is a crowded space now; when we started there was only Nimbit. Now bands have dozens of options. Maybe we should talk? I know Kris contacted me a few weeks ago but I lost his address...
