Greg Yardley said it. I just rephrased it. It is so so true, though. Blogs create opportunities.
Greg also links to Seth Goldstein's series on Media Futures. Seth's series is absolute genius. It puts everything that is happening on the net right now in the perspective of its future financial value. From tagging, to APIs, to open source, to search engines + ad networks, to lead generation, to publishing platforms.... if you were wondering why there'll be money in this stuff, aggregate it.
One of Seth's posts is about Alchemy. Go read it. I can't do it justice with a paraphrase. Although, he says Alchemy is the "The practice of transmuting base metals into precious metals." I think a better definition for his context might be, "the way two individuals [or more] relate to each other."
So, the ironic/coincidental part of all of this is that I've been reading Greg Yardley for a long time and linking to him, because he has a lot of smart things to say. And I spoke to Seth this Saturday. Both of these guys emailed me about these posts.
Long story short, If I didn't blog, I would have most likely never had had the opportunity to speak to either of these smart guys. At some point, I'll have to make a list of all of the people I have gotten to know as a result of blogging. But, I am fully confident that based on the people that I meet as a result of blogging, we will take what is primarily a local event marketing company and transform it into an event publishing, marketing, transaction and lead generation platform....with an [inter]national presence.
The key is Alchemy... on so many levels. Glad to see I am putting that $100k Chemical Engineering degree to work.
Update: Whoa! More at Read/Write Web and User Driven.
