Genius WorkShop: The AfterMath

Susan Kaup's and Shimon Rura's first Genius Workshop was a great event. Unfortunately, I didn't get everyone's contact info at my table. But, I sat with the following people:

My Side of the Table:
Susan Kaup
- It'd be pretty redundant to say what she does. But, Sooz puts on events, runs a bunch of cool websites and more.

David Weinberger - Needing not much of an intro, here is what consumes his time now.

The other Side of Our Table:
Mark Bernstein
Runs Eastgate - Maker of the Personal Publishing Tool for the Mac, Tinderbox

Gregor Rothfuss -
Open Source Content Management Consultant. Apache Project. Print on Demand.

Tim Jarrett
Ex Microsoft Community Development Project Manager for Microsoft.com. Currently looking for a job in the enterprise or social software field.

Here's the rest of the pics that Shimon took. And I've bookmarked most everyone who was in attendance on delicious.

Funny cool how I how searched on google for genius workshop. Found the technorati tag cosmos for it and saw the flickr pictures. I wonder when my delicious links for genius workshop will show up on technorati?  This kind of aggregation would be cool on an event website.

In slightly related news, Susan's ExploitBoston! project ranks second on google for "Boston Events".  Sooz pointed out Bostonist to me, which looks like one of many city-extensions of Gothamist. I didn't realize this was happening. They were smart to link off to ExploitBoston! though.

We talked about a lot of stuff with a special emphasis on not talking about blogging. Content management systems, online fake cries for help and deception, each of our projects, how we each got where we are, what we are looking to do next, getting comp'd at big tech events, microsoft's love affair with usenet. Many people also felt a little self conscious about going to an invite only event called "Genius WorkShop", as it implies that we were geniuses. I am ok with the complement. But, some of the more humble (atleast outwardly humble) guests were a bit put off by it. Sooz like the name and got the domain name, though. So, it looks like that is the path forward.  Looking forward to the next one.
