Do you Hate Paypal?

We are looking into setting up a merchant account for ticketing because so many people hate paypal.

I think it is a spiffy-arse product - which makes a developers life very easy.

But, anways....

Here are some suggestions for making Paypal easier to use. Do you have any suggestions?

What if they created an api for it so developers could develop the best interface? What if they had completely branded landing pages? What if, as worldchamp suggests, they just asked people to enter their shipping and billing info in one step on the landing page?

Or maybe people should just get a little smarter, read the freaking directions and realize how much more secure it is to give one "trusted" company your credit card, instead of 50,000,000 merchants, and get over the fact that it takes a little bit of persistence and reading to use paypal corrrectly.

I fear it may be too late for paypal. So many people that I have talked-to, have said that they hate it. I don't know if paypal can reverse that perception of being difficult to use.

I totally agree. I love paypal as a developer, but as a consumer I actually choose to not use it... ...funny huh?

I think it stems from the fact that when my wife and I set up our first paypal account we did it under a credit card that has both of our names on it... ...so when I went to set up an account for myself, and used that credit card number I had to jump through endless hoops - - major pain in the arse. Decided to use another credit card number... ...Now whenever I come accross the option to use paypal, I can't remember which password, my wife's or mine, for which card number... ...I end up just using re-entering my card number.

I know, I need to just straighten it out... ...and I will someday... ...but I never think about it till I need to use it, an I usually don't have time to do it then.

But I agree, paypal is the way to go... ...yet as a consumer, its got this "stigma" to it. But then again, everybody knows Windows has viruses, and still 90% of people buy them!

Yes a "one step" process would be a great idea...

I sure do hate paypal!! I cant even believe I live in the USA when I see what they do and get away with scott free. I'd do anything ANYTHING to damage that company. They've ripped me off big time. Its a long story but so similiar to the thousands, maybe millions of others. So many people think "hey they've been fine with me" besides for rip-off transaction fee's they seem fine. Well your lucky, they would seize you life savings if they could. I HATE!, even more than HATE paypal.

Everyone must be aware of what Paypal pulls, How can we stop this company?? This is not a fluke problem, they stole over $3000 from my account. Saying suspicious transactions? BS- There was NONE. Pretty much they take your wallet then think they are doing you a favor if they even repond to e-mails. Get this one> They took back the $$ from 6 purchases I made from sellers on E-bay without my asking. Why? they say its because the money came from a sale "I" made to a person who wasnt happy 5 months ago. Thats just the beginning

I have a comment for making Paypal Easier! Go back to the drawing board! They should be shut down!

The main problem with Paypal is that it sides with the buyer too quickly. I used it when I sold a dvd to some guy who refused to have anything other than basic first class post but needed it in a hurry. 2 weeks after he'd said he needed it he decided it had never arrived and Paypal gave him a refund. There was no way to give Paypal my side of the story at all as the only thing I was asked for was my "tracking data". Jeez, this was a private sale of one dvd. Of course I emailed but they never replied. Sadly for them I'd already cleared the account of funds so my account now lies dormant and in the red. I'll see them in court if they want that money.

Paypal have stollen £14 because i tried to withdraw money and they aid i had insufficent funds in bank account and charged me £14 for them to cancel it (i dont have insufficent funds, and how the fuck insufficient funds in a bank account could affect a withdrawl from paypal to it is beyond me) admitedly the amount taken is small but it is the principle that counts. also i want to know what happeens to all the intrest on the money when it is stuck in paypal accounts, surley they must get enough (of our) cash from that, so as that they donot need to steal it in the form of fees as well.

PayPal is not difficult to use.
They are DECEITFUL!
They as well as EBay lull you in to a false sense of security by INFERRING that they are there to help and protect you,NOT TRUE!
You can only contact them by Email UNTIL you need to make a claim. To make a claim you must print a "hard copy" of their form fill it out and fax or mail it to them and wait 21 days while they determine if your claim is valid.
To even get to that point you must fill in Email after Email and respond to so many forms along with paying $25.00 for them to do this that your time gets reduced to pennies an hour.
What started out as a great market place(EBay) has now become just another GREED machine owning PayPal and screwing the little guy.
I for one have gone back to the mall.

PAYPAL has rude reps, one lady said "sir I can't hear you", I asked her to forward my call to a different rep she began to explain why she should handle my call but she complained again I can;t hear you, maybe she has a hearing problem or a bad day I dont know I asked her to please transfer my call to a different rep she refused

PayPal, an eBay Company

Paypal have closed my account - what a joke. i have been aquesed of selling adult material, which i don't. but thay have taken it upon them selves to closed my account. i really salgged them off in emails, and when thay reply, thay don't even answer your email, thay just uote there fucking stupid poilcy, and ask you to remove all logos. Paypal was the only payment system i could use for my business, and now i have to fold the business thanx to those wankers.

I have been with paypal for 3 years, and they spring this on me. what about all the 10,000s of site who do sell adult material and use paypal,

i know of 3 who have been going for years, and still are, so why have there accounts not been closed.

i really hate paypal. since i wasn't selling adult material and thay are saying i was, but there is not trace of any adult material transaction in my activitys. so basically this is descrimantion, because i don't have alot of money going into paypal, so since im just classed a a small piece of dirt compare to the big pieces of dirt, they think that thay can close my account for something i haven't done.

I have given a copy of there policys to a solicitor and he is going through it, thay are not getting away with this.

I only use paypal because it's the only thing ebay uses. Why do I hate paypal? If something goes wrong with a transaction, they tell you to take it up with the other person and resolve it yourself - now that's great customer service... It ends up screwing over people like me who actually have figured out their hokey system. I believe the best thing to do is to take it up with eBay to find another company that will have the customer respect of a bank. The only reason paypal is here is because of eBay and that can be changed.

No problem, I'm sueing Paypal for stealing $5,360.89 of my money and I found place that promises to NEVER shut limit my account AND it's in their policy. mywebmerchant.com. My lawyers are all ontop of it. Jacoby & Meyers jacoby-meyers.com, see what these guys can do for you too

I've had some serious issues with paypal that involved a questionable policy decision on their end.

But the real problem is that their customer service is condescending (when you can get them to respond to an email). Yes, all growth companies run into scaling problems, but many handle it by apologizing to customers and at least trying to keep your business. Paypal doesn't apologize - they simply stop dealing with you.

I've cancelled my long-time merchant account with them and have stopped buying and selling on ebay as a result.

I've rarely been so angry with a company.

they stole from me.. a customer sent me and email about recieving her ebay items and she told paypal they never showed so they gave ehr a full refund of 130$us and she gets to keep my 40 dvds.

Hi to all PayPal haters!! I too am a PayPal hater, but my husband insists on using them. He is involved in a recent transaction with a complete wacko who is threatening to cancel a credit card payment he made via PayPal. It was only $300.00, but after all I've read, I'm afraid of what this might lead to. Can anyone give me some advise as to how to proceed before I answer this guy? gladiolas@softhome.net.

Thank you and good luck to all!!

Damn, look at the comments keep rolling in on this thread!

PayPal stole a hundred bucks from my wife by refusing to dispute a clearly fraudulent (and well-documented) chargeback. I won't even use eBay any more. Screw 'em, the company's lost its sense of ethics.

Paypal froze my small business account because some one bought many products at once for more than $600! Oooh, God forbid that someone actually pay that much for 20 products at $30 each. Now I have done everything to please them using the resolution center and finally being frustrated called them. The bitch was so condescending. Paypal is a bastard. I read someone talking about mywebmerchant. I am going to give them a try, I really hope they are secure and legit.

Paypal sucks. I have had an account with them for 5 years. Have used it on and off for minor transactions selling and buying toys, tickets, etc.

Because I had one month last year when my earnings topped $500, ever since then they have been screwing me by forcing me to have a "premier" account which is premier only for them, since it translates into PayPal receiving a huge chunk of any selling transaction I make now even though I sell few items only a few times a year.

And even better...I tried to make modifications to my account about a year ago. They wouldn't let me. I tried via email and phone. They were so rude to me. Bottom line...no modifications can be made because I opened my account with my first initial as my first name. So even though I can present my credit card #s, bank acct #s, and other verifiers proving my name, they will not change any info on my account (unless it benefits them...see the remark about "premier account" above). Their response....I should close my account and set up a new one. Stupid. So stupid.

I am in the situation that I hate paypal but I have to continou use them if I still want to sell on ebay. As seller I believe paypal is favor the buyer side. Paypal staff always hide behine the email and not willing help either buyer or seller. the only reason I still using paypal right now is because thats the most poplular payment method on ebay. I hope one day we can do gather together and suite against paypal.

Avoid PayPal's Expanded User Program and their insistence that you have to accept it. If you do they take a 'fee' out of your bank account - just to verify your identity (again??!!) but never give it back as promised, unless you go through some complicated process they avoid telling you about unless you read their 400 page disclosure statement.

Why isn't there a substitute for people to use? Has anyone seen a web site that offers all of the things that Paypal does without all of the hassles?

PayPal makes me want to vomit! I hate them!

PayPal is doing some unethical if not illegal things. My account was limited because someone else logged into their account using my computer and that person ended up having issues with paypal and wut do they do? they limit my account and all other accounts that was used on this computer! its been 2 freakin months and $6,000 is still stuck in my account. I tried opening a new account and another $5000 is stuck in that one too because they found out that it is my wife's account so now i have $11,000 stuck in both accounts. and this is all due to $350 that the "guilty" party owes paypal.. and they take it out on everybody else. I HATE PAYPAL AND HOPE THEY GO OUT OF BUSINESS SOON.

Paypal stinks! It's a company that helps theives and scoundrels from around the world steal your money. Be sure of one thing all those who say "Paypal is ok" one day they will steal from you and you will be able to do nothing about it (read terms & conditions). One day soon Pay"pal" will screw you, just like they did me and millions of others. There are ultimatly only two winners when you use Paypal "Ebay" who own it & the scammers and theives who know how to use Paypal to steal your goods and your money!

A scam I feel for recently was a buyer said Item "not as described" Paypal found in his favour and said I must pay him the money back...NO investigation. Anyway, he sent back some trash "with a tracking number" not the item I had sold him & Paypal stole my money. He got a nice new item and his money back I got shit and had to pay him for it! It would be funny if it had not happened to me.

Paypal SUCKS!!!!!!!
It protects a buyer and that is it.
All you have to do is buy something, file a claim with Paypal that the item is "not as described" and you will get your money back, that is guaranteed. Any buyer can defraud you and Paypal doesn't give a rats ass about it. You will never get a response from them. And when the claim is filed on you, you'll have great fun trying to figure out where to go to respond to the claim. Then when you use the contact link, you will never get a response. The money will just be taken out of your account and then you will be screwed out of your goods, your fees, and your time. Paypal is not USER FRIENDLY. They do not have support for SELLERS. IT IS EASY TO GET DEFRAUDED WHEN SELLING AND USING PAYPAL. They like to freeze and keep people's money, especially when you contact them. If you have a problem, contact them and your account will then have problems with it. Paypal will shut you up and freeze and close your account so that they don't have to listen to you anymore or respond to you anymore. GO AHEAD TRY IT AND SEE. PAYPAL SUCKS, EBAY SUCKS AND I HOPE GOOGLE OPENS UP ITS AUCTION SITE AND CRUSHES EBAY INTO CYBERSPACE HISTORY. I HOPE OTHER USERS REALIZE THE THIS AS WELL. EBAY CHEAP, thats funny users have to raise the price becasue of the fees with Ebay and Paypal to make up those fees and you'll probably pay more than if you just used a search engine to find the product you wanted. I can guarantee you that you'll find a cheaper price on a product using a search engine than on ebay and the item will be from a company and you'll be protected from fraud by your credit card company, that is security. In close PAYPAL SUCKS!!!!!!! AND EBAY BLOWS!!!!!!!

I guess after reading all the above I should be pleased that I cannot start an account, but it's all my vendor uses. I attempted to begin an account with Paypal , but they have my daily checked email account of six years listed under someone else's name for 3 years. I told them I could provide proof that it is my account , and I have sent them emails from my account, but they say they can do nothing to rectify the situation. I have no intention of creating a new email (that I will never use) in order to accommodate a company that will not allow me to use my own email address when they have requested it. Instead, I will only go through vendors that have other payment options.
