Amazon Launches Plogs

Is this just a new name for its recommendation engine which exclusively uses browsing and buying history and what other people bought to determine the recommendations? Here's the announcement page.

(Found via Rafat Ali)

Rafat Ali suggests that Amazon should index your blog, blogs you read, what you search for (ala a9), etc and recommend books for you based on that data. Now that would be an original idea!

What other things could Amazon, after purchasing some blog search technology of their own, use to make product recommendations?

Update: I guess not everyone is getting this functionality reports Kottke. Somebody post a screenshot, please? I am obviously not getting it, either.

Update II: Stowe Boyd posted a screenshot.
